French 1766 Cavalry Pistol

Single-shot flintlock cavalry pistol issued to French mounted troops. Smoothbore, large-bore service pistol (commonly around .65–.75 cal, often cited as ≈.69), with an 8–12" barrel, walnut stock and brass furniture, usually fitted with a belt/holster ring. Rugged, plainly finished for close-range use from horseback; many examples were later converted to percussion.
