The Anglo-Dutch club-butt doglock is a 17th–early-18th century style of short flintlock pistol and musket that combines two distinctive features: a doglock (an early flintlock mechanism with an external “dog” safety catch) and a club (or club-butt) styled stock — a pronounced, bulbous butt intended to balance long barrels and act as a short striking surface. These weapons were produced in England and the Low Countries (the Netherlands) and were widely used by cavalry, dragoons, naval crews and colonists.
